Bassett crash out of Wilts Junior Cup at Quarter Final stage

The Town eleven failed on Saturday to realise the expectations or many of their supporters when Honeystreet defeated them in the fifth round (divisional final of the Wilts Junior Cup Competition by 5 goals to 3. The Town started very shakily, and at the end of 10 minutes A. Ball, Honeystreet's 18-years old centre forward, beat Emery, who had left his charge. The lead was increased by the same player soon afterwards. The home forwards then set up a brisk attack, and before the interval, M. Titcombe reduced the arrears, and A. Compton equalised, with a long range shot.

During the second half the Town had quite a good share of the play in various raids A. Ball scored three more goals for the visitors. It was very late in the game when L. W. Chequers sent in a dropping shot which completely beat Hyatt. Had the home defence played their usual game there is every possibility that the Town would have secured the right to play in the semi-final. The teams were: Wootton Bassett - F. Emery; A. S. Beale and H. Clarke; E. Evans, E. Tull and A. Compton; F. Selman, L W. Chequers, M, Titcombe, S. Titcombe and W. Sandell. Honeystreet -T. Hyatt; T. Shaw and J. Robbeck; E. Griffin, W Smith and C. Ball; E. Jackman, H. Hams, A. Ball, C. Pope and S. Jackman.

Tomorrow the Town team will visit Compton Bassett in a Calne and District League match, and the chosen players are: F. Emery; A. S. Beale and H. Clarke; E. Evans, E. Tull and A. Compton; F. Selman, L. W. Chequers, M. Titcombe, S. Titcombe and W. Sandell.
