Game abandoned as opposition walk off when losing 8-2

The Town' first eleven entertained Cherhill in a Calne and District League match on Saturday. It was soon evident that the visitors were no match for the Town, and the standard of play never rose above the ordinary. The game came to an abrupt end after 70 minutes' play, for Dolman was ordered off the field, and as a result the remainder of the Cherhill team took their departure. At this stage the score was 8-2 in the Town's favour, their scorers being L. W. Chequer (4), J. Norris (2), F. Wilkins and S. Titcombe. Dummer and Clarke had netted for the vsitors.

The first eleven receive a visit from Calne Reserves in a Calne and District League match tomorrow, and the team will be: F. Emery; A. S. Beale and H. Clarke; J. Norris, E. Evans and A. Compton; R. Lewis, L. W. Chequers, M. Titcombe, F. Wilkins and W. Sandell.

Footnote

When the Wiltshire FA dealt with the discipline matters relating to the game it seems the player in question had form for causing games to be abandoned. In the Wiltshire Times of 15 October 1932, it was noted by the FA that the player who had been sent off had previously been suspended for 28 days following a sending off and his refusal to leave the field which had resulted in that game also being abandoned. This second such offence led to the player in question being suspended for the rest of the season and the Cherhill team for two weeks. No doubt the Bassett side would have preferred the result to have stood as when the game was replayed the two sides shared 10 goals and the points.
