Bassett go down to first defeat of the season in big game with Avebury

The Town suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday, when Avebury. who like Wootton Bassett, had not dropped a point in the Calne and District League, and who were at the head of the League table with a better goal average were the visitors. After 30 minutes' hard play Selman gave the Town the lead. Avebury strove hard to equalise but 25 minutes of the second half had elapsed before Lewis brought the scores level from a penalty, as the result of handling by Clarke. Following this, Avebury had more of the play, and Lewis scored twice for the visitors after Clarke had been carried off as the result of a collision.

The Town will visit Corsham in the second round of the Wilts Junior Cup tomorrow and the selected team is: F. Emery; A.S. Beale and H. Clarke; E. Evans, E. Tull and A. Compton; F. Selman, L.W. Chequers, M. Titcombe, S. Titcombe and W. Sandell.
