Exchange of Blows - Players Ordered Off at Wootton Bassett

Wootton Basset Town's first eleven opened their Calne and District League programme on Saturday, when Horton and Coate (Devizes), newcomers to the competition, were the visitors.

In less than five minutes Horton took the lead through Smith, and soon afterwards Wordley put the visitors further ahead. Play then veered round in the Town's favour, and A. W Clarke reduced the arrears with a good shot.

After 25 minutes the game was marred by the fact that two players came to blows. They were Titcombe, the home centre forward, and Pile, one of the visitors backs, Titcombe had previously been warned and his name taken, and when, a few minutes later, he charge the Horton goalkeeper, Pile intervened with the result that the referee ordered both players off the field. Before the interval Chequers and A. W. Clarke scored for the Town, thus giving them the lead.

In the second half play was very even. Chequers added to the Town's score, and the result was: Wootton Bassett Town, 4; Horton and Coate, 2
