Anderton heroics ensures a win against a strong Highworth U8's side

The second match was a very close affair as Bassett met an exceptionally good Highworth Under 8's team who played some very attractive football. There were no goals in the first half, but Bassett took the lead from the penalty spot mid-way through the second half through Robert Leighfield, after a handball in the Highworth area. Highworth responded well to the goal and attacked the Bassett goal. Fortunately for Bassett, goalkeeper Simon Anderton was like a rock and nothing was going to get past him in this game. On four or five occasions he pulled off saves to deny the young Highworth side and was certainly Bassett's man of the match. Matthew Purse, on his debut also played well for Bassett. Bassett secured the victory with a goal from Nathan Douglas with what turned out to be the last kick of a very close match. Despite the Highworth team being a year younger than Bassett they had competed on even terms and were very unlucky not to get at least a draw out of the match.
