Bassett narrowly lose first official league fixture

Bassett were narrowly beaten by Swindon Robins in their opening fixture of the Swindon & District U/9 East Division. In tight first half, both teams played some excellent football with neither side finding the net. Sean Toomey was involved in much of Bassett's midfield play, distributing some excellent passes. Callum Snooks always looked a danger up front for Bassett but, on occasions, his tendency to hold onto the ball too long when teammates were in better positions restricted Bassett's goalscoring chances.

In the second half. Robins broke the deadlock with a well-worked move but for much of the half the game remained very tight. The opposition was fortunate to go further in front when a Bassett player headed into his own net from a Robin's comer. Bassett got themselves back into the match when Stuart Smedley set up Sean Toomey for what was to be Bassett's only goal of the game. Stuart Smedley hit a post late on and, despite having a lot of the play in the closing stages, Bassett were unable to get on level terms. Daniel Strange and George Drewitt both again played well in Bassett's defence and Joshua Dimond did well in goal in his first game for the team. The game was once again played in a very sporting manner in front of a large crowd.
