Honours even in second league game of the season

Bassett visited Stratton Juniors for their second official fixture in the S&D Under 9 league and came away with a draw in a fine match between two evenly balanced sides. Whilst the home side played some attractive passing football, the Bassett side was full of running and restricted Stratton to only a couple of chances. When Stratton did get through on goal, keeper Simon Anderton kept them out with yet another solid goal keeping display. The game remained 0-0 at half time.

In the second half, the match remained tight although Stratton created more chances early on. Stratton missed a golden opportunity to go in front from a harshly awarded penalty but squandered the chance with the penalty being struck wide of the goal. However, the Swindon side did go in front soon after when one of their strikers produced a dazzling run and turn which ended with a great shot past Simon Anderton. Bassett responded well to going behind and put the home side under pressure. Callum Snooks, Phillip Forster, Tom Marchment and Sean Toomey were involved in much of Bassett's creative work while Daniel Strange, Robert Leighfield and George Drewitt ensured that the home side did not go further in front with some solid defending. Bassett got back on level terms through captain Sean Toomey who raced past the Stratton defence and hit a shot from the edge of the area which went under the keeper's body and into the net. In the end, a draw was a fair result with neither side deserving to lose the match.
