Bassett inspired to victory by Rylands Way main pitch

Bassett entertained Swindon Eagles from the North Division of the Swindon & District League on Sunday and put in an excellent performance in front of a sizeable crowd. This was the first time the boys had actually played on the Wootton Bassett Town pitch and this seemed to inspire the team into putting in one of their better performances of the season. Throughout the match the passing and movement was excellent. Bassett's two goals were scored by Robert Leighfield and Phillip Forster. Captain Sean Toomey had the chance to extend the Bassett lead from the penalty spot but unfortunately shot high and wide. Despite this miss he had a superb game, leading the team with his inspirational runs and strong tackling. Tom Marchment also played well and has probably been Bassett's most consistent player all season. Swindon Eagles scored a consolation goal in the closing stages of the match and were very sporting opponents. Next week Bassett travel to Oaksey for their final league match of the season.
