Dimond ensures that Bassett get the win

In the end Bassett won this Swindon & District League fixture but it was very close in a match that was both sporting and excellent to watch. Bassett went in front when a Cirencester defender scored past his own goalkeeper following a Bassett corner. Cirencester equalised soon after, but Bassett ended the first half in front when Callum Snooks scored. In this first half, Daniel Strange and George Drewitt had once again been superb for Bassett in defence against a couple of lively Cirencester strikers. Stuart Smedley. Nathan Douglas, Callum Snooks and Phillip Forster had all linked up well when Bassett were going forward.

Bassett started the second half slowly allowing Cirencester to equalise soon after half time. Bassett responded well and started to apply a lot of pressure on the Cirencester goal winning a series of corners. It was from one such corner that Callum Snooks regained the lead for Bassett, when he scored direct from the comer. Nathan Douglas extended the lead further when he scored with a half volley, again from a comer put over by Callum Snooks. Callum Snooks rounded off an excellent performance with a hat-trick goal to make the score 5-2. However, the spirited Cirencester side did not give up and came back at Bassett scoring two more goals and had other chances right at the end but Bassett's defence, marshalled by goalkeeper Josh Dimond held firm to ensure a victory.
