Much improved performance from Bassett youngsters

A much-improved performance by Bassett's younger players in the second game against an Athlestan side which plays in the West Division saw Bassett lose by the odd goal in five. In fact, after a couple of heavy defeats, Bassett came close to achieving a draw. I was very pleasing to see the improvement in the way the team played with all the Bassett lads putting in a tremendous amount of effort. Special mention of George Barker who played exceptionally well in Bassett's defence against an Athlestan side with a couple of very big and strong players. Bassett went in front thanks to Dean Wason, who scored with an excellent finish when put clear of the defence Athlestan got themselves back into the match with a goal before half time.

In the second half, Bassett continued to play well but fell behind following a penalty for hand ball. Athlestan went further ahead soon after but a goal from Luke Brakes, another player having a great game for Bassett, 30 seconds from time meant the visitors had to play out a few tense moments before the final whistle.
