Bassett just edge it to pick up 3rd league win of the season

Although Bassett won this Swindon & District League match it was a close-run thing. In an extremely entertaining and sporting encounter, three well taken goals from Bassett were just enough to register the third victory of the season for Bassett in the league. Robert Leighfield gave Bassett an early lead with a superb shot past the Oaksey keeper before Oaksey got back on level terms with a well-worked goal. Captain Sean Toomey regained the lead for Bassett, finishing off a good passing move involving Callum Snooks. However, Bassett's joy was short-lived when following an injury to defensive stalwart Daniel Strange, they found themselves out-numbered at the back and Oaksey equalised.

In the second half, the early exchanges were even but Bassett went back in front thanks to a second goal from Robert Leighfield - and what a good goal it was. It was doubly pleasing for Robert to score in front of his grandfather who, as co-sponsor of the side, was attending his first game of the season. Bassett should have extended their lead but Stuart Smedley and Callum Snooks both missed chances for Bassett. Oaksey battled away until the very last minute and were unlucky not to equalise in the closing moments when they hit a post. Sean Toomey cleared the ball before the Oaksey forwards had chance to score from the rebound. All in all, a very enjoyable morning with Bassett just, and only just, scraping a victory.
