Bassett save the best to last

Bassett saved their best result of the season for their final league match against an Oaksey side missing a couple of their regular players. Despite playing on a pitch where the grass could have done with a cut, Bassett were able to pass the ball around with confidence. A fine exchange of passes between Stuart Smediey and Nathan Douglas saw the latter player put through on goal and he finished in style. Bassett went further in front with two goals from Stuart Smedley. This was followed by one each for Philip Forster and Robert Leighfield before half time. Stuart Smedley also hit a post with another shot as Bassett dominated the home side.

At half time captain Sean Toomey swapped places with goalkeeper Simon Anderton and the biggest cheer of the day came when Simon Anderton found the back of the Oaksey net. Bassett kept up the pressure on the home side and added further goals through Callum Snooks, Philip Forster and Nathan Douglas. Oaksey scored a late consolation goal which was well deserved as they never gave up despite the score line.
