Bassett beat current league champions Greenmeadow 1-0 to remain top

After last weeks down pour at Malmesbury we had to contend with the High Wind and Greenmeadow at Ballards Ash, if we were to continue our unbeaten run so far. And We Did!!!!!!!

Greenmeadow's pre match chant, which was over heard by Parents and the team alike made our players even more determined not to lose this battle. The game kicked off with Greenmeadow choosing to play with the wind, and pressed Bassett back a few times throughout the 1st half, and caused us a few problems with our team conceding corners like they were going out of fashion We knew the away team could put us under pressure with the corners and their speed up front and they did, but we learnt from last time and even though under extreme pressure from the away team and the very strong wind, the team coped and dealt with this fantastically, with Kieran pulling off a string of saves, but one save was outstanding when he reached and dived to tip the ball onto the post going out for the corner.

Today's game was not about ability, but who wanted to win the most would come out on top, and yes Greenmeadow had plenty of play in the 1st half but that was more to do with the wind, but we knew if we could hold out against the wind we would be and should be ok for the 2nd half. We had 2 or 3 chances in the 1st half but not many, but that shows the sign of a good team when you are under this much pressure and still come out all square at half time.

With the squad we have and the rotation of some of the players this is certainly paying dividends for us this season, where we were lacking in depth from last season we have made this up and sorted the problems out. The 2nd half started and again we told the lads what we wanted and they proved they listened to us this time at half time, to be fair Greenmeadow did not really get a sniff at our goal for most of the 2nd half because we had the wind, changed a few positions around and it worked.

With Greenemadow conceding a free kick 10 yards inside their half midway through the 2nd half, up stepped Grant to take this kick, and by god did he take it. He launched the ball 40 yards dropped nicely over the defenders bounced in front of the keeper, bounced up knocked the keepers hat off his head on the way into the goal making it 1 Nil to Bassett. This could be Grant's most important goal so far for him and the team and with the Players, Parents and the linesman (Paul) alike jumping up and down the screams could be heard all over Ballards Ash.

This was an entertaining game and it proved that when the Rugby players stopped training and the spectators on the other pitch started to watch this game as well. Kieran gave us all a missed beat on our hearts with 5 mins to go when Nashie under hit the ball to him so Kieran raced out and ended up in the corner flag trying to stop the attacker from advancing towards our goal, which in turn gave our defenders time to get back (well done Kieran). But not too often please.

The whistle blew and the players totally respected Greenmeadow by giving them 3 cheers shook the hands and then celebrated their great win today. Thank you for Danny coming to watch today and supporting the team

I could mention the whole team individually on how they played but this was a great effort by all and another great result. WELL DONE LADS.

Overall a well earned 3 points, a good team effort by all and another clean sheet, and as Nashie said this is a Sexy result (not sure where he was going with this one), with Callum Buzzing and someone else summoning the game up, this is Awesome.

Again team, WELL DONE for today and the season so far.
