Bassett remain unbeaten with 3-1 win at Highworth

Bassett travelled across town to play Highworth in there first game in 3 weeks and it showed. Right from the ko Bassett at times were put under pressure on a pitch which was uneven and in need of cut, therefore causing difficulties trying to play our usual game of the ball along the ground.

The defence had a very good game with Nashie and Grant (best game so far) kept them at bay whilst Seb's speed on the left got us out of trouble when they attacked, with Ryan (Played very well) having a personnel battle with there winger and managed to keep him fairly quite. Kieran had a quite game today but in some situations needs to talk to the defence to let them know he is there to receive the ball.

Danny is progressing well now and was unfortunate having to come off for a while to capture his breath, and Harry on the other wing was doing well and putting himself about, the midfield of Jack and Nick was kept busy against a fast moving attack of Highworth, but at times they were pushing up to much and leaving a big hole in the middle when the ball was being cleared from the Highworth goal.

The game was never in doubt it was a matter of time, not if but when we were going to score, and the deadlock was broken 5 mins before half time when Ryan beat the opposing attacker looked up and passed it through to Jack, who in turn lobbed a 30 yarder ball over the keeper's hands and dropped nicely into the net making it 1 nil to Bassett. The chances were created before that and after that but we failed to make any contact on the final ball hence going into halftime 1-0 up.

Half time came, and the team came in for a chat we asked them what they could do better and they gave us the answers we were looking for and out they went for the second half. Jake had a quite game by his standards but did a lot of running and could have scored a couple but could not get his foot around the ball and when Callum dropped into midfield he played well there by playing others in and this is where our 2nd goal came, Callum played to Jack who played out to Matthew who played really well today went down the wing cut in and let fly with a shot but for the goalie to somehow stop it on the line????? But Harry claimed the goal by putting it over the line to make sure and Bassett now winning 2 nil started to pass the ball round a bit more, a few mins later Callum picked the ball up in the middle of the park ran towards goal and put it in the bottom corner of the net with the keeper having no chance. Jonathan for his efforts could not score today but played well in keeping the ball, and then passing it around and also using his speed to win the ball, which seemed at times we were never going to get it.

Highworth scored a goal by just there sheer commitment and never give up attitude and a big slice of luck, Kieran came to pick the ball up but the ball took a wicked bounce and went straight through his hands bringing the game to 3-1, shortly after that highworth hit a great shot but hit the crossbar came out and that was it came over never looked back.

Overall, not played for over 3 weeks now it showed but the team grew as the game went on, over a just about playable pitch uneven and long grass, the lads done well again and the coaches are pleased how well they have done, this win moves them on quite nicely for next weeks Semi-Final against a much improving Malmesbury side.

They did enough today not played to well at times but still won, so come on boys lets bring on Malmesbury next week in the semi's and lets see what happens.
