Bassett win tough encounter with Highworth Town

We welcomed Highworth today at Ballards Ash, we also saw an old player rtn to play against us as well. Even though we won 2 nil, it was not an easy game for us, right from the start Highworth gave us a good game right until the end, the 1st half came and went with the scores being nil nil, both teams had there chances but Highworth's mainly from long range with hit and hope high in the air making our keeper Kieran stretching making more good saves as he has being doing all season, and with our chances not being taken or the final ball not quite getting through.

We set a game plan for the boys to follow and when they follow that plan it works, and works well, but today Highworth came to town and we told the boys they will have to work harder and in the end they did especially in the 2nd half, ball on the floor and start passing, finding our players and not there's and switching the ball from side to side and then they started to work well.

The second half was a 100% better in terms of passing and creating chances for us, the back 4 was really quite today but Grant shone today and took control of them, the middle of Jack and Nick got to grips in the 2nd half and worked really well, Jake (1) up front played another good game and his running was all there to see, he was all over the place and credit goes to him for not giving up when he was not going to get the ball.

The break through came when a great ball was put through and with the bounce of the ball the Keeper and Harry jumped for the ball and Harry's head just got to it first and he played the ball into the empty net. That goal seemed to settle the lads down and the ball was being switched from side to side now and the second goal came by Jake's persistence with a 50/50 ball between Jake and the Keeper Jake just got to it rounded the keeper and coolly slotted the ball home to make it 2 nil game over.

The team made hard work of it at times today, but dug in deep for another 3 points, These are the teams we need to beat to win this League, its not going to be easy but we need to work well and for each other, the team is at the top of the tree and in my eyes always have been right from day one but we need to keep focused and not take any team lightly.

Again lads well done overall for digging in deep today sometimes it is not going to be pretty football but a win is a win, keep going and keep focused on the season ahead and you will all be fine.

WELL DONE BOYS.
