Chairman sees Bassett make cup final at County Ground

For the third time in 4 years Wootton Bassett are going to the County Ground and we await our opposition either Lydiard or Greenmeadow.

With the appalling weather today the semi final was not going to be an easy game with the conditions getting worse as time went on, and playing on a 3 quarter size pitch and with the smallest goals I have seen on that kind of size pitch it was going to be a tough game.

Off we go!!!!! With the Kieran in goal the back four of Seb, Nashie, Grant and Cole, the midfield of Harry, Danny, Nick and Callum with Ryan and Jake up front we were on our way the subs of Ellis and Josh were to come into there own later on in the game when used. The ko and Bassett were quick to attack the lads were told they were not going to be able to run with the ball on these conditions so lets try and play the ball in front of the strikers to run onto or get it down the wing and cross early.

I cant really say too much of the game today because it was one way traffic for most of the game with Malmesbury attacking only a few times but when Kieran was required he done his job and done it well, the team worked well for each other as they have done all season so far,

2nd half came another chat with the lads and changed the positions slightly to give us a more attacking options, we played with 3 up front of Jake, Callum And Ellis on for Ryan to give the Malmesbury defence something else to worry about, Josh on for Danny and we waited to see if it will work, and how we did not score 5 maybe 6 or more I don't know, but there Keeper played a fantastic game and singly handed stopped the ball from going over the line on every shot we had. Ellis harassing the players into making mistakes was getting stuck everywhere and Josh flying down the other wing the game was about when we were going to score not if but when they would manage to do it.

The lads did not give up one bit, and with Nashie finding his range in putting over 3 or 4 balls to the forwards to run onto was coming into his own today and relieving the pressure on us at the back (pls head the ball more) Seb (nice and cool under pressure) and Cole (best game this season) doing a good job and Grant another good game since coming back from injury made sure the back 4 and Kieran kept another clean sheet for our team. The team done very well in difficult conditions today, and I am sorry for not bringing Ryan or Danny back on but the game was too close at that point to change things and with that the game was looking to go into extra time, but with 3 mins to go Jake received the ball from Grant, in turn for all his hard work and always looking dangerous played Josh in on the wing (just back from India) and he cut in squared the ball across Jake hit it, keeper stopped it and fumbled the ball, his only mistake of the 2nd half and the goal poacher of Callum was the quickest to respond to a loose ball and stabbed the ball over the line to make it 1 nil to Bassett with then 2 mins to go and with the Parents jumping up and down and all the boys jumping on Callum we had one foot in the final, whilst this was going on, down the other end Kieran was on his own jumping up and down with his arms raised.

The whistle blew for full time the parents were smiling all over; the team gave 3 cheers for the other team and then started to celebrate on booking another trip to the County Ground. One of the most pleasing sights was the 2 players of Ryan and Danny who were not used in the 2nd half in these cold conditions, as soon as the whistle went for full time were running on to the pitch to celebrate the teams win and that's what its all about there faces said it all and the teams faces painted a great picture, this is what its all about.

WELL DONE TO THE TEAM TODAY IN GETTING THROUGH A DIFFICULT TIE.

County Ground here we come.

CONGRATULATIONS LADS this team is buzzing, as Callum Little would say!!!!
