Bassett win big crunch game against Ferndale Rodbourne

Crunch game of the season Bassett without a loss so far and only conceding 1 goal were home to Ferndale who also have not lost, so something was going to give. After last season's Cup final defeat, revenge was needed to send out a signal to the rest of the league and also to some doubting Parents who said this will be our first defeat, so on that note well done to the Players to maintain their 100 % start.

From the start the lads were up for it which was unusual for them as it takes a while to get going, The coaches said what they wanted to the boys and they delivered, this win was for Us, Themselves and the Parents of the team. Josh had plenty of play down the wing; Jack and Nick playing the holding role in the middle controlled most of the 1st half and 10 mins of the second half towards the end.

Ryan played his best game so far with his simple passing and created a few crosses for the team as well and balls for Josh to run onto. The chances seemed to come and go with the ball being crossed by Josh and Jack with them either hitting the crossbar or crossing the ball with no one prepared to put their head or foot on the ball to bury it in the back of the net. The whole team played well with Kieran playing an outstanding game in goal either catching everything or jumping on the players to make the save.

The teams work effort in the 1st half was outstanding with Danny on the wing playing well again with the back up of Seb who is also having a good season so far. The defence is playing well and as a unit, with Nashie who at times is playing out of his skin and controlling the defence with ease. The forwards of Callum, Ellis and Jake are playing well and running all over the place to harass the opposing players but today the service was not there for them, but this was a team effort.

1st half ended with the score being nil nil but at times we should have been at least 3 nil up with the chances we created, 2nd half started as it finished with Bassett pressing the Ferndale team and with the decisions generally going against us we were surprised to get a blatant free kick on the edge of there area. Jack Brain stood up weighed up his options, and lofted a chip over the wall and all of the players into the top corner of the goal to make it Bassett 1 Ferndale 0, and for his celebration the whole team chased and then Jumped on him to congratulate Jack and with the roar of the parents from the other side we were 1 nil up.

The next 15 mins Bassett to be fair was put under pressure from the ko, we seemed to sit back to much and let Ferndale come at us and with last ditch tackling from Nashie, Cole and Seb maintained a zero in our goal and at times we soaked up their pressure and counter attacked. Some of the passes Bassett made were fantastic and when we played the ball on the floor I still say no one can touch us, Josh had a few chances but could not score with the keeper either saving it or the shots going wide.

Callum and Jake off now for a well deserved rest, on came Neil and Danny up front to give our team different attacking options and with the two boys play, created a few more openings for us and with that an open was created where the play was switched and suddenly Harry and Neil were left open in front of goal but time they thought about it the defender came in and blocked it but the rebound came to Harry who had a good game shot into the bottom corner making it 2 nil to Bassett game over.

Overall the team played very very well and they were up for it, at times sat back too much but a well taken 3 points.
