We travelled to Fairford today to play against Ferndale.

The game today was our 1st since the 10th Dec 2006 and it showed I thought, we were rusty all the way through our team and to be fair we were lucky at times. Ferndale had so much more of the ball and play at times, but even when we do not play well it shows what a good team this is to come through and win this quarter final against last years winners, Ferndale did not create that much throughout the game which surprised me with the play they had, but Bassett just kept going and going and that what got us through, there commitment, there never say die attitude and what was pleasing to see was when they did go 1 nil down they kept going.

When we played some football, Bassett looked dangerous we could have won maybe 4 or 5 in the end with the chances but just could not finish the final shot, and that's when the game went into extra time, Ferndale kicked off and to my horror went past the whole lot of the team and scored a very good goal and in my eyes that gave us the big kick up backside and then we started to play, Ferndale went into half time in extra time 1 nil up, but a change in formation to us with 3 up front, 3 at the back and 4 in the middle suddenly put the opposition on the back foot, our fitness levels are getting better and better and it showed it, Ferndale gave us a free kick just outside there area, up stepped Jack Brain and he did his usual master class free kick top corner lobbed probably the biggest keeper in the league to make it 1 all.

From that goal Ferndale were on the back foot and Bassett kept pushing and pushing for the winner and we came so close to it by trying to lob the keeper and he held onto it well and game finished all square.

The dreaded penalties are now looming, the lads battled hard and this is where one big team was going out. The takers were Jake, Nick, Jack, Josh and Kieran, up stepped

Jake, placed it and shot into the bottom corner technically that was a perfect penalty, they came and took there shot and they blasted it over the bar, Nick took the next one and blasted it in, they stood up and shot and scored past a flying Kieran making the score 2-1 to us, Jack stood up and hit it straight down the middle, the keeper saved the shot but it bounced out of his hands and rolled into the net making it 3-1 Bassett, they next player came and shot but he shot wide, Josh was the next taker, if he scored it was all over, we all looked and waited , he walked up ,he hit it and went straight past the diving keeper and our passage through to the semi's was confirmed, the players all mobbed each other on there win and Kieran who was our 5th taker was not used.

Overall the lads battled well, dug deep and with the chances created they deserved to go through on them alone.
