Heat takes its toll as Bassett open with a win against Cricklade

Today's game saw newly promoted Cricklade coming to our ground, and they certainly made it hard work for our team to start our season off.

At the start of the game we had 14 fit lads with Grant still being out with a broken collar bone, by the end of the game we had ten players on the pitch either through injury or just through shear heat exhaustion so the remaining lads for the last 15 mins done well to maintain a clean sheet.

Todays performance was not a great one but as I said the heat bearing down on them the lads did well to maintain the speed of which they played at times, In the second half the team started to create quite a few chances and if it was not for there goalkeeper the score could have been 8 or 9.

The team did well but we lost the shape as time went on and I believe this was because of the injury's we picked up to some of the players in key positions and the heat but it was still pleasing to see the side win when we did not play to our strengths.

We the coaches will be putting the lads in positions we think will benefit the team and at times not the individual, this is a team game so lets get behind the team and inspire them to better things.

Overall the lads done well with Callum and Jake running there socks off up front, with Josh screaming down the wings, Kieran with great saves and coming off his line, I could go on about all the lads but they know they all worked hard so lets move onto Wednesday's game against Lydiard.

Well-done boys
