Bassett do just enough in midweek at Lydiard Youth

Today's game saw the U12's travel to Supermarine the home of Lydiard Youth who in their last outing beat us 3 nil.

What started out to be a nice evening turned out to be. Spot the ball in the dark contest, winning entries to be drawn at this Sunday's game.

After the first game Bassett still made hard work of this game in which they seemed to forget the fundamental basics of football, i.e. positions, awareness, not listening to the coaches, keeping hold of the ball and when to release or not to, in which we will try to resolve in training over the next few weeks if we are to progress in this league.

The first half came and went with a host of chances going our way but with either the final ball to the forwards or the players not finishing it when they had a chance to, the deadlock was broken by the way of a penalty conceded by a blatant handball which Jack converted to take us into a halftime lead of 1 nil.

After a nice chat at half time the boys came out with a different attitude to the game in the now ever darkening skies and drizzle. The ball was now starting to be passed around and with Josh flying down the wing, the crosses started to come and with Ellis making more and more of a menace to the opposition a further goal looked on the cards but in the end it remained 1 nil.

To be fair Lydiard had there chances from corners, but Kieran done well to stop them and Neil heading the ball from the near post from a certain goal?

In the end 1 nil was a fair result to us, but 1 note is the ref must have lost his watch as we played 41 mins in the second half or he could not have seen it as it was pitch black.

Overall a win is a win, but improvements need to be made and let's get back to the passing side that everybody feared.
