Bassett secure Longlevens double

Sawmills End, 12 March 2022

Royal Wootton Bassett Town climbed a place to 12th in the Hellenic League Premier Division with a 2-0 triumph away against Longlevens.

The result guaranteed a season double for Bassett against the Gloucester-based side, though this victory was secured in less dramatic fashion than the 4-3 home triumph at the start of December.

Bassett took the lead shortly before half time as John Mills expertly brought down Scott Chilcott's long throw into the box before coolly steering in on the turn.

Alfie Presley then made it two as the game neared it's conclusion. Coming somewhat against the run of play, the midfielder collected a pass from Gio Wrona before muscling his way into the box and firing beyond Adam Wallace in the Longlevens goal.

With the win Bassett edge above Hereford Lads Club, who were beaten at home by Bradford Town. A win in Tuesday's home derby against Calne Town will then see Sam Collier's side move within two points of rivals Fairford Town as Bassett seek to hopefully climb another place before the end of the season.
