Heavy defeat for Bassett against Spencer Moulton

Spencer-Moulton's experienced little difficulty in defeating Wootton Bassett in this game at Bradford. Spencer's opened their score after two minutes, Gliddon scoring from long range with a shot that went just inside the upright. When Wootton Bassett had a turn later Perry got clean through, but with only the goalie to beat that player shot against the upright. Several good chances were missed by the home forwards, a couple of whom persistently tried to walk the ball into the net. The visitors made occasional swift raids, but after 35 minutes Nichols, who had just previously missed a "cert", scored a second goal for Spencers, and this proved to be all the scoring in the first half.

Spencer's soon increased their lead after the restart through a goal by Gliddon, and keeping up a steady pressure Nichols scored a fourth goal. Spencer's were having very much the better of things in this half, and when F. Paritt middled the ball later Nichols had only to tap it into the net for their fifth goal. The Bassett forwards made raids, but as in the first half, rarely looked like scoring. For Spencer's Wilmot hit the visitor's crossbar with the goalkeeper helpless, and shortly after Nichols was clean through, but in trying to place the ball wide of the advancing goalie saw it graze the foot of the upright. The visitors then made their most dangerous raid, but Andrews saved Clark's shot when a goal looked likely. Back went Spencer's to the other end, where Glidden hit the crossbar with a good one. Spencer's were in fact just shooting in for a long spell, but their marksmanship was oft-times faulty. Again, Gliddon was unlucky when he banged a shot against the crossbar. Just before the end, however, Sadd scored a sixth goal for Spencer's following a nice a forward movement as one could wish to see.
