Town throw away a 3-0 lead against Rovers

Chippenham Rovers fought back after being three goals in arrears in their home game with Wootton Bassett and picked up their first point of the season. The Rovers gave a trial to a young goalkeeper named Woodley, who shaped (sic) exceedingly well after allowing for a couple of early lapses before he had settled down. Tall and built for the position, he subsequently brought off a number of fine saves. He is well worth persevering with.

The game never rose to great heights. Wootton Bassett scored two lucky goals in the first 20 minutes, Perry scored first, the ball bouncing over Woodley's shoulder as he went down to the shot, and Drury scored the second with a high shot from a free kick just in the Rovers half. Drury several times during the match endeavoured to repeat this feat and not for a long time has such terrific kicking of a "dead" ball been seen on the ground. Ten minutes before the interval Gleed got the visitors' third goal, but immediately Powell replied, and the visitors led 3-1 at the interval.

Almost straight from the restart Powell got another fr the Rovers, and about halfway through the second half Jones equalised after being put through by Powell.

The Town will entertain Swindon Corinthians in a Wilts League match tomorrow and the selected team is: C.R. Waite; R. Brown, F.C.W. Drury; A. Compton, H. Clark, J.G. Fry; F. Childs, F.F. Perry, A. Embling, S. Gleed, R. Beazley.
