Calne & Harris United provided the opposition at Wootton Bassett today when the home team met them in the second round of the Wilts Senior Cup. In the first minute, Drury took a free kick from near the halfway line and Gleed gave Wootton Bassett the lead, heading the ball past Winter, the Calne goalkeeper. After this, play was of the end to end type, and after eighteen minutes, Matthews should have equalised for the visitors, but he missed the ball as it passed the goalmouth. Angell also missed badly in the next minute. At the other end Winter did well to save from Chequers. The home side were now having the better of the exchanges. After good work by Beazley and Gleed, Embling ran through to put Wootton Bassett further ahead after thirty minutes play. On the resumption Calne & Harris made great efforts to reduce the score, but Wootton Bassett continued to hold out and eventually Beazley and Perry added further goals. Thus Wootton Bassett deserved their four goal lead.
