Purton continue to carry all before them in the Wilts League. Before a record crowd on the village ground on Saturday they completed the double at the expense of Wootton Bassett Town, and are now within striking distance of the leaders.

Wootton Bassett were without Waite and Perry, in defence, but Arthurs who kept goal in the absence of Waite gave a wonderful display and stood between his side and a heavy defeat.

Webb gave Purton the lead after 10 minutes, and the other goal was scored just before the interval following a melee in the goalmouth.

The Town will entertain Trowbridge Town in a rearranged Wiltshire League match tomorrow and the team will be: C.R. Waite; H.C. Page, F.C.W. Drury; R.W. Brown, H. Clark, J.G. Fry; J. Titcombe, F.F. Perry, A. Embling, S. Gleed, R.J. Beazley.
