Bassett's Cinder Lane Struggles Continue

Cinder Lane, 20th November 2010

Wootton Bassett Town's record of never having won away against Fairford Town continued as Dave Turner's side were forced to come from behind to snatch a point against the so far winless bottom of the table side.

Continuing their Jekyll and Hyde form, Bassett produced a poor display and - despite moving back into 13th thanks to a Thame defeat - missed out an opportunity to maintain the healthy gap between themselves and those clubs at the foot of the table.

Dan Franklin, who began the season playing for Bassett's reserve side, took advantage of the visitor's display to give his side the lead on the stroke of half time.

Midway through the second period, Shaun Carter put one past his former team to level the scores, but a winner was ultimately elusive.

Despite the hosts having run a number of teams close, demonstrating that their record does not neccessarily reflect how they have fared on the field of play, for Bassett this was a case of two points dropped rather than a point gained.

And with a tricky run of games ahead, performances will need to return to the level of those put in against Flackwell Heath and Slimbridge if any kind of return is to be had.
