Lydiard Youth complete the double over Bassett U8A

Today we met Lydiard Youth for our last League match of the season and this was the one our lads couldn't wait to play as Lydiard are the only team we have never beaten. Unfortunately for us we had two players pull out at the last minute which left us with a bare seven and no subs.

From the first whistle we knew we had to set the pace of the game and the tackling had to be the best and the strongest it had been all season. But as has happened on a couple of occasions this season we didn't seem to get going until we were behind and Lydiard caught us with two quick breaks to send us into half time 2-0 down.

At half time we asked the players for a little bit more and at the beginning of the second half we got it as Bassett started off the better team. Unfortunately though Max started to suffer with bad blisters which meant he could no longer run and with no one to bring on for him we ended up playing with only six players so it became a matter of trying to keep the score down. Lydiard knew this and to their credit they played the ball around excellently managing to frustrate us and score twice more to make the final result 4-0.

The result today was disappointing but again we showed great attitude and commitment with a lot of the players showing that they can be counted on when the chips are down. Today we had to hold our hands up and say we were beaten by the better side and Lydiard have now set the standard which we must try to match and hopefully better in the next few years. There were a few contenders for the MOTM today, Mitchell and Martin both impressed showing great fight and drive but it was Scott who again just beat them to it with a good all round performance.
