Under 8's continue run of victories

Ferndale Rodbourne were our visitor's today for another afternoon kick off played at Noremarsh School and after last week's great result at Wroughton it was important to keep up the momentum.

The first five minutes of the match saw both teams weighing each other up with a few half chances at each end. Some good goalkeeping from Reuben ensured that the scores stayed level and then Bassett started to take the game to Ferndale. Kalum went close with a good shot which went just wide, then minutes later Josh won the ball and played it out wide to Kalum, his first cross was blocked but his second effort found Josh who make no mistake, 1-0. Good defending from Keir and Mitchell kept things tight at the back and soon it was 2-0 when Josh whipped in a cross which the keeper didn't hold and it trickled over the line. Bassett were then unlucky not to make it three with a couple of good moves involving Kalum and Scott and then Scott, Kalum and Josh but it was Ferndale who scored next with a very good passing move to make it 2-1 to Bassett at half time.

For the second half we brought on Martin and Max who had both missed the previous game and both of them were soon in the thick of things, Martin with his solid tackling and Max with his forceful running and this resulted in Bassett piling on the pressure and scoring a third goal. It came when Scott -who was having his best game so far in midfield-, won the ball on the halfway line and played it into Josh's path; he took a touch and then smashed the ball into the back of the net, 3-1. Within two minutes we had made it four, again it was Scott and Josh involved, Scott took a quick throw to Josh who turned and placed his shot into the bottom right hand corner. Ferndale then went on the attack but there was no way past our defence as Martin and Mitchell stayed strong and ushered the ball back to Reuben, he then released the ball quickly to Kalum who beat a player before laying the ball off to Keir who finished with great composure. It was all Bassett now and just before the final whistle we made it six when Kalum played a good one-two with Oliver and scored with another cool finish.

A good result again today which keeps the confidence up and also keeps our run of victories going, although I still feel as though we can play better and add at least another 10% to today's performance so with that in mind the result was very satisfying.
