Excellent performance in pre-season friendly

Here we go again with the start of a fresh season, this was our first friendly of the new campaign and the team put in an excellent performance at Ballards Ash against South Marston Saints.

The match started off fairly evenly with both teams tackling hard right from the kick off and this was always going to be a good test for Bassett as South Marston Saints had some very strong players. It took us about 5-10 minutes to get used to playing again after a few months without a game but we slowly started to get on top and it wasn't long before we scored the first goal. It came after some good running from Max Passingham created a chance for Oliver Lowkis to score with a good strike. A few minutes later Oliver got his second to put Bassett two up at half time.

Bassett kicked off the second half but it was South Marston Saints who started the stronger and after a few minutes they pulled a goal back. This acted as a good wake up call for us and within a minute we had pulled back our two goal advantage after Max set up Josh Bolton for his first of the season. Then it was all one way traffic and before long it was 4-1 with Oliver working hard to create another chance which Josh buried. With a few minutes to go Josh made a run down the left hand side and crossed for Max to finish well to make the final score 5-1 to Bassett.

This was an excellent team performance, Reuben Querzani-Southan looked very comfortable in goal and all our best moves started from him, Scott Lees and Mitchell Terry were outstanding in defence, always tackling hard and receiving the ball from Reuben and bringing it out well. In midfield Keir Miles and Max P worked hard defending well and making good runs to support the front two. Up front Josh and Oliver linked up really well scoring two goals a piece and also tracking back when we lost possession. This was a great way to start the new season, we played some really good football with the passing being as good as anything I have seen so far from this team and if we can continue to play like this week in week out I think we will be a very difficult team to beat.
