Great result against strong Wroughton side

Today we travelled to Wroughton who have beaten us three times over the last year so the players were all psyched up to ensure that this time it would be different and we went into this game quietly confident as we know we have improved a lot since last season.

As the match got underway Bassett looked in control with some good early possession and good tackling. Kalum, Ollie, Josh and Scott all tested the Wroughton keeper before half-time and Bassett were unlucky not to go into the interval a couple of goals up.

Within two minutes of the restart Wroughton caught us knapping and ran right through our defence to score the softest of goals which somehow trickled over the line. This was to be their only real chance of the game as Bassett continued to press and the equaliser soon followed, Josh received the ball on the right halfway into the Wroughton half and after beating a player he crossed to Ollie who made sure with a cool finish. This spurred us on and we knew that the game was there for the taking and continued to push for the winner. It nearly came minutes later when Josh hit the post after being put through by Scott. Then with five minutes to go Kalum tricked the Wroughton defence before playing a great ball to Scott who wrapped things up with a good left foot shot to make the final score 2-1 to Bassett.

Although the midfield and forwards got all the headlines today Reuben, Mitchell and Keir were excellent and gave very little away at the back, Ollie, Scott and Kalum worked very hard in midfield and Josh was back to his best running the Wroughton defence ragged.
