Return against Robins much closer

This weeks fixture was a repeat of last weeks game against Robins only this time we were playing away and although we managed a good result winning 4-0 at home it was important for us not to underestimate this side as we knew they would be trying their hardest to avenge last weeks defeat.

It was a very even start to this match with both teams looking to gain an early advantage. Scott, Martin and Mitchell were all involved in some good strong tackles within the first few minutes and this set the standard for the rest to follow. Mitchell it was who set up the first goal when he won the ball well in midfield and played a great early pass to Josh who found the back of the net from just outside the area. From the restart Robins tried to get straight back into the game but Reuben was always alert and snubbed them out on more than one occasion to send us into half time with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half Robins were now kicking downhill and this resulted in Bassett being put under quite a lot of early pressure but we managed to soak it up and then push on to create more chances of our own. Ollie, Mitchell and Scott all had good shots and Josh hit the post twice but we just couldn't seem to get the second goal which would have taken the sting out of the game. This encouraged Robins to keep coming back at us and before long they had equalised when a long corner was whipped into the Bassett area and an unfortunate touch from one of our players sent the ball whizzing past Reuben and into our own net. Anyone would have expected Robins to now be on the ascendancy but Bassett were determined to show that they were the better team and a great early pass from Oliver found Josh on the halfway line, he beat his marker and ran on to bury his shot low to the keepers left to make the final score 2-1 to Bassett.

Today we had three players missing but despite this we played some excellent passing football and another pleasing point from this game was our tackling which was outstanding, making this one of our best performances of this season. Every player put in a top class performance today but Mitchell was one player who seemed to be everywhere and was definitely the driving force of the team which earned him today's MOTM award.
