A close game on a very difficult pitch

Coleshill Juniors were today's opponents and after last week's excellent performance today's match couldn't come soon enough, but as soon as we saw the state of the pitch we new it was going to be difficult to play our passing game on a surface which I can only describe as worse than a cow field.

Coleshill were another strong well organised team who were always going to test us but straight from the kick off we set the pace and some good early passing moves between Kalum, Ollie, Max and Scott almost broke the stalemate. Scott also went close with a shot which hit the crossbar before Coleshill scored only to have the goal disallowed.

At half time we brought Keir and Josh on for Oliver and Mitchell and told the players to try and play our passing game a little more in the final third of the pitch, as the temptation in the first half was to resort to playing the big boot due to the bad pitch. This seemed to work as we started to play some good attacking football resulting in a few good chances. Just as it seemed as if it was going to be one of those days where we just weren't going to score having hit the post, the bar, had shots cleared and on top of all this Coleshill's goalie was having a blinder, Kalum received the ball on the half way line and played a good ball to Josh who was out wide, He looked up and saw Kalum continuing his run and played the ball into his path, from this position Kalum used his pace to run clear of the Coleshill defence and slot home the only goal of the match to make the final score 1-0 to Bassett.

Today we were made to work hard for the result but again we dug deep and kept going to the end which was very pleasing to see. Reuben looked steady and made some good important saves. Mitchell, Martin and Scott were solid again despite it being quite testing with the ball bouncing all over the place. Keir, Ollie and Max worked hard in midfield with Max covering a lot of ground with some good running up and down the flanks and Kalum and Josh are now starting to get a good understanding up front.
