Gritty performance under the lights at Rylands Way

This week's match was played as an evening kick off under the floodlights at Rylands Way against our latest opponents Blunsdon Colts. The conditions were perfect for a game of football and we were all hoping to continue with our recent good form.

The match kicked off and both teams spent the early part off the game battling for control with Bassett gradually coming out on top. Some composed football at the back resulted in Reuben throwing a good early ball out to Martin, who after evading three tackles managed to pass the ball wide to Max, he ran with the ball and then threaded a pass through to Josh who drilled his shot low into the bottom corner.

It was now important to keep things tight and a great double tackle in front of our goal by Mitchell and then another by Martin prevented Blunsdon from getting back into the game. Then came possibly the best move off the match, again it started from the back, Reuben rolled the ball to Mitchell who coolly played it under pressure to Martin, he looked up and passed it wide to Max who ran at the Blunsdon defence and pulled the ball back, Keir and Kalum battled to win it back again and Kalum picked Josh out with a great early pass, Josh then hit a powerful first time shot which rattled the post, this would have been a great goal as started from the goal keeper and involved every Bassett player. We were now settling down and playing some good football and the next move saw us go two up, Keir won the ball in midfield and picked out Kalum, again he played another good ball to Josh who this time shot into the top corner.

We made two substitutions for the second half bringing on Scott and Oliver for Keir and Martin and straight away we were piling on the pressure. A good flowing move involving Oliver, Kalum, Max and Scott nearly resulted in number three but the shot went inches wide of the post. As the second half progressed Bassett became camped in the Blunsdon half and but for some great defending by the opposition we could have won the match even more convincingly.

This was another good win for us although again we were made to work hard for it. Plenty of fierce tackling from both sides ensured that this wasn't going to be the prettiest of games but never the less it was a good gritty performance which will carry us confidently into our next match.
