Excellent performance as Bassett secure narrow win over Wroughton

Today we faced Wroughton for what has become a bit of a local derby and we expected a tough game as they are another good side who always try to play good football.

Wroughton kicked off and straight away the pace of the game was fast and furious with Wroughton having the better of the first ten minutes. Our game plan was to be compact and try to soak up the pressure in the first part of the game and save ourselves for the second half as we were playing on a very heavy pitch and had no subs. This worked well and we had to rely on some excellent Goalkeeping from Reuben to keep us in with a shout. But then as half time approached we started to up the pace a little with Max and Ollie looking to carve out chances for Josh. Max it was who made a good run down the right and crossed for Josh to finish to make the score Bassett 1, Wroughton 0 at half time.

Bassett were well on top now and we were looking to increase our lead and some good link up play from Ollie created another chance for Josh to score his and Bassett's second. With two thirds of the game gone we were now starting to tire and it was a real battle trying to keep the players focussed to the end. This resulted in Wroughton nicking a goal back when we were guilty of ball watching and not marking tight but all the players then dug deep and we played some lovely passing football during the final few minutes.

Well done again lads, this was another excellent performance with every player playing an important role, Reuben showed again why we consider him to be one of the best keepers in this age group with some brilliant handling and shot stopping, Martin and Keir were again solid at the back, Ollie, Mitchell and Max put in a great controlled performance in midfield and Josh contributed well by pressurising the oppositions defence. The MOTM award was very hard to choose again this week as everyone was excellent but I thought both Keir and Ollie looked very impressive and worked extra hard today and I couldn't chose between the two.
