Back to Highworth for another friendly

Another trip to Highworth this week but this time it was to play against Highworth Juniors in another friendly match, which yet again gave us the opportunity to try different players in different positions.

After a few difficult games recently it was important for us to try and get back onto the winning trail again. We knew that Highworth were going to be no pushovers and that it wasn't going to be easy but we started the match well and before long we had taken control of the game and had gone close with a few good shots before we finally took the lead. It came from Max Passingham who drilled in a low shot after causing the opposition all sorts of problems with his forceful running. We carried on dominating the game and started to put together some good passing moves which saw us end the half 1-0 up.

At half time we brought on Tom Topping who was given an opportunity to push for a first team place for Martin who had been unwell during the week. Tom slotted into the centre of midfield and straight away he was in the thick of things making some excellent challenges one of which started the move which led to Josh scoring to make it 2-0, then Max scored his second and Bassett's third when he chipped the ball over the advancing keeper. At this point Highworth managed to pull one back after we lost concentration for a few minutes but towards the end of the game we restored our three goal lead when Oliver received a short corner and picked out Max who found Josh and he gave the keeper no chance with a powerful shot to make the final score 4-1 to Bassett.

A good result this week even though we haven't quite managed to find our best form again yet but hopefully this is another step in the right direction and the result has got to be good for confidence. Reuben was outstanding again this week and made some fantastic saves, Keir played well in his first full game in defence and Tom also had a fine game in midfield with Martin, Mitchell, Oliver, Max and Josh all playing an important part in securing what was a very good result.
