Best performance of the season as Bassett defeat Old Town Utd

Quite simply this was our best performance this season. A scratch side playing a team from a higher league, away from home and 3 – 1 down at half time. We looked to be going nowhere but the boys pulled out a fantastic second half performance and overhauled a good football team.

Although we started the game brightly Old Town always looked threatening. The attacking players that they possess all linked up well and caused our defence problems throughout. Our game was based around breaking away quickly and we look the lead with a fine goal from Ben Curtis who lobed the keeper when running through unopposed. Old Town didn't change their approach and drew level with a goal created by slick passing and a cool finish. Five minutes before the break we conceded a free kick 25yds from goal. Poor defending allowed Old Town to beat the offside trap and any one of three players could have scored. One did and we went in 3 – 1 down.

After the interval Bassett managed to be first to virtually every ball. We broke up nearly all their midfield possession and created chance after chance which fortunately all fell to man of the match Ben Curtis. He was a constant threat, his physical presence and ability to get in behind the Old Town defenders gave us the chance to first get the 2 goals we needed to draw level and with 8 minutes left on the clock grab a great 4th goal and win the game.

Old Town had great ability but Bassett had the greater desire.
