Just what the doctor ordered

After last weekends thumping away to Shaw the emphasis had to be on better defending. To this end, Craig Kelly and Ben Curtis played at the centre of the defence and what a difference it made. With our two strongest players ensuring that nothing got past it gave the rest of the team confidence to go forward and throughout the game our two strikers Harry Fitzwilliams and James Dixon caused the Ferndale defenders plenty to think about.

In the opening period Bassett just about shaded both possession and goal attempts and after 16 minutes our greater threat resulted in a headed goal from Brett Embling. This settled us down and we looked like a 'proper' team, totally different than last week. On 21 minutes James Dixon, who was impressive through-out, linked well with Callum Walsh and Phil Barber and slotted in goal number two.

Now Ferndale began to push Bassett back and looked dangerous, in-fact they should have scored when one on one with Jack Mason but shot wide.

With the score 2 – 0 at the interval it was stressed that Ferndale were still not out of the game but as usual with the 13's we came out half asleep. Ferndale came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but we were lucky. Indeed it was Bassett who extended their lead when Callum Walsh refused to give up on a lost cause. His persistence resulted in the Ferndale keeper fumbling the ball and he scored from fully 20 centimetres - phew what a scorcher!!

Still Ferndale pushed on and they managed to score when a mix up at the back looked to have been cleared on the line by Brett Embling, but his clearance fell to a Ferndale player and he hit the target. Five minutes later however our 3 goal advantage was restored when Harry Fitzwilliams powered through and shot past the keeper into the net.

A 4 – 1 win was just what the doctor ordered and has set us up for a tough match next week away at Fairford.
