Need for improved concentration

Another defeat for Wootton Bassett but it shouldn't have been. For 90% of the 1st half it was all Bassett but the goal we needed just wouldn't come. Ferndale had 2 attacks and scored both times. The first was from an indirect free kick which, without hitting anyone crashed against the bar, fell onto Tom Hammonds back and into the net. The second goal came from sloppy play when not under pressure we allowed the Ferndale left winger to cut into the box and smash the ball past the despairing keeper.

After the interval Bassett continued to push forward, moving Ben Curtis alongside Harry Fitzwilliams, and 15 minutes into the second half Harry halved the deficit with a fine left footed finish into the right corner of the net. It now looked as if we would at least end up with a draw but the Bassett defence had other ideas. Ferndales 3rd goal came after the defenders got caught under a long goal kick and the on rushing Ferndale strikers cut through and scored. The forth came from a similar through ball with poor marking allowing a shot on goal. Tom Hammond saved the shot but the rebound went straight to the opposition and ended up in the net.

This Bassett team has great spirit but poor concentration, something we need to correct quickly.
