In a game which Bassett had to win we not only got the 3 points but totally dominated Wroughton and improved our goal average which may be crucial at the end of the season (Ed: please read your handbook as goal difference is irrelvant in NWDFL as it was in S&DFL).

From the start the boys got amongst the opposition and managed to gain possession from every loose ball. Ben Curtis did a great job hustling the Wroughton defence and we looked a threat with every attack. After 6 minutes Bens hard work paid off and he scored against his former team mates. Bassett poured forward and the hard working midfield of Matt Buckingham, Callum Walsh, James Terry & Brett Embling created many scoring opportunities from which Harry Fitz, Craig Hunt and Callum Walsh extended the lead to 4 – 0 at half time. During the interval Wootton Bassett reflected on their lead and remembered the last meeting with Wroughton. At half time in that game we were 3 up but managed to throw the game, drawing 3 – 3.

Not this time.

The second half pattern was the same as the first, constant Bassett pressure, and within 5 minutes of the restart Harry scored his second. This gave us the platform to introduce Joe Leedham for Matt Buckingham, Andy Rolfe for Brett Embling and newly signed James Dixon for Ben Curtis. The defence was changed, pushing Craig Kelly and Brett Carr into midfield and bringing Callum Walsh to center back. For a while we were vulnerable and Wroughton managed to exploit this with a ball over the defence. All the players called 'off side' (never was) and a lob shot sailed over the despairing Jack Mason. Bassett got back into gear and with 10 minutes remaining James Dixon repeated the Wroughton trick, and the Bassett scoring, with another lob which beat the Wroughton keeper
