After 2 straight defeats the last thing we needed was a tough game against the league leaders, Fairford, but the boys dug in and ground out a creditable 2 – 2 draw and with better finishing could have come away with a win.

We started the game brightly, Ben Curtis managed to get in behind the Fairford back line on a couple of occasions but this wasn't his day to score. The game settled into a period where first Bassett had long periods of pressure followed by Fairford gaining possession and causing our defence problems. It looked like who ever made a mistake would be punished and so it was. Fairford played a ball over the defence and Brett Carr looked to have cleared the danger, but his sliced clearance was deemed a back pass by the referee and the resulting free kick was played sideways and then lashed into the top left hand corner of Jack Masons goal. The remaining time of the first half saw chances for both teams but the score remained 0 – 1.

After the interval the game saw Bassett constantly press forwards but Fairford remained calm and always looked dangerous on the break. After 10 minutes Fairford extended their lead with a fine passing move which by-passed the midfield and the right winger had no problems beating the Bassett keeper.

For the next 5 minutes Bassett were not in the game and Fairford had a couple of chances to wrap the game up. One a speculative cross shot hit the corner of the post & crossbar, and a truly great Jack Mason save denied what looked a certain goal from a long range shot.

Bassett then went to 3 at the back, pushing Craig Kelly into midfield. This changed the game and Bassett pressure caused a Fairford player to knock the ball into his own net. Then in the last minutes Harry Fitwilliams received the ball from a left wing cross, turned in the area and knocked in the equaliser.
