Best performance so far on a grey, cold and drizzly day

Today was a great day for ducks and Wootton Bassett under 13's. On a grey, cold and drizzly day Bassett turned in their best performance of this and perhaps any season.

Croft started the game in high spirits, pushing Wootton Bassett back into their own half for most of the opening 10 minutes. Bassett however held firm and the well drilled defence marshalled the Croft forwards well. Time and again Croft threatened and each time the home team pushed them back. Gradually we got more and more of the ball and looked dangerous on the break and inevitably Harry had an opportunity where his initial effort was well saved but he slotted the rebound in past the despairing Croft keeper. The remainder of the 1st period saw Croft push on and Bassett play on the counter attack but the score stayed 1 – 0 at the interval.

After the break Croft poured forward and it was no surprise when, after winning the ball just inside the Bassett half, they got the ball wide, the winger crossed to a forward and he buried the ball in the Wootton Bassett net.

Changes were required so new signing Tony Smith came on for James Terry and Andy Rolfe replaced James Dixon.

With a great tactical change, Ben Curtis moving from defence to attack and Craig Kelly switching to centre half, Bassett changed the game completely. The team worked tirelessly and managed to win the midfield battle which enabled them to retake the lead with a fine 20 yard lob from the very impressive man of the match Ben Curtis. Now we were cruising. Within 5 minutes Harry was sent through by Tony Smith and was one on one with the keeper. He knocked the ball wide and the keeper brought him down. Penalty. Harry strode up to the spot and smashed the ball into the roof of the net. 3 – 1. With 10 minutes remaining Bassett were never threatened and fully deserved the scalp of one of the best teams in the area. Well played everyone and give the man from Bradenstoke a big fat cigar.
