This could become a habit

Bassett need to beat Devizes twice before the end of the season to finish in 3rd place. On this performance they surely will. Inside 10 minutes the home side were 3 up and cruising, Devizes were shell-shocked.

Before kick-off we had discussed how in recent games some of the team were just making up the numbers and relying on a few players to do all the tackling and hard work, but today each one of them was prepared to run and work for the entire 70 minutes.

The boys were well and truly fired up for this one. Callum Walsh started the scoring followed by James Terry and Phil Barber. At 3 – 0 Devizes had probably there best spell of the game and were awarded a penalty after a late challenge by Craig Kelly. The penalty taker lined up his shot but pulled it wide of the right hand post. Wootton Bassett then regained the initiative and Andy Rolfe scored two goals to bring us in 5 up at the break. After half time Bassett were still the stronger team, but Jack Mason was called upon to save well from the Devizes attack and much credit must go to him for ensuring the home side kept a clean sheet.

Andy Rolfe completed his hat-trick ten minutes into the second half followed by a goal from Ben Curtis and probably the best of the lot, a cheeky chip over the keeper, from Craig Kelly.

Another home game, another 8 – 0 win. Better be careful this could become a habit
