Biggest win of the season so far

Bassett under 13's started 2004 with a thumping 8 – 0 victory over the leagues bottom team, Stratton, and but for a terrific performance from the Stratton keeper and Strattons determination to play to the final whistle it could have been 18 – 0.

Being the first game for three weeks and never really knowing what mood the 13's will be in, it was anybodies guess what the outcome of a game that we really needed to win would be. But straight from the kick off the home side were camped in the visitors half and were never really threatened. The first half saw great commitment but an annoying habit of playing only through the middle where the pitch was at its worst. Never-the-less we scored regularly with goals from Ben Curtis, Harry Fitz, James Terry & Brett Carr. The unluckiest effort was a terrific header from man of the match Craig Kelly, which he met on the run from Ben Curtis's well placed corner, but his effort crashed against the cross bar.

The second period was one way traffic again with Bassett creating chance after chance, but our 'wonderful' ability to hit the ball directly at the goal keeper continued. Every Bassett player on the pitch must have had an attempt on goal but the only further successes came from Ben and James for their second goals, from Matt Buckingham and most deservedly a fine run and cool finish from Craig Kelly.

Well played every-one and lets hope for even more improvement in 2004.

Next fixture 18.01.04 away to Chippenham in the Wilts Cup.
