Chris Balfe scored the only goal of the game as Wootton Bassett Town finished their season with a 1-0 victory away against Brimscombe and Thrupp. The win meant the Gloucestershire become one of three teams who Bassett have done the league double over during the campaign.
The midfielder scored after taking advantage of a mistake by the home 'keeper when dealing with a backpass.
Bassett therefore finish their first season back in the Hellenic League Premier Division in 14th place, the three points taking Jeff Roberts' team back above local rivals Shrivenham. The results also means the team finish with a goal difference of 0 - a respectable figure for a side winding up in the bottom half.
It's a finish Bassett can look back on with some sense of pride given the number of teams in the top half who points were taken off. Just a few more goals though would have turned a share of those dozen draws into wins and earned a placing potentially higher than Brimscombe, who were also promoted from Division One West next season.
