Corinium Stadium 14th August 2013
There was to be no early season derby joy for Wootton Bassett Town. Instead, two goals in the final twenty minutes saw Highworth Town snatch victory and leave Jeff Roberts' team in an early hole.
While they have the luxury of an FA Cup tie on Saturday to try and kick start their season, an arduous four game stretch which includes trips to Binfield and Flackwell Heath and home matches against Brimscombe and Thrupp and Wantage Town awaits.
For a long period of the contest against the Worthians, Bassett - playing their first competitve fixture at the Corinium Stadium - led. Seven minutes before half time defender Shaun Carter climbed highest and headed home Alex Rigley's corner.
But on seventy minutes, 'keeper Luke Kuczynski misjudged a free kick and Lewis Page bundled in to level the scores. Shortly afterwards, with Bassett's players tiring, Darren Smart provided the suckerpunch.
The visitors' margin of victory could even have been greater but TJ Bohane - scorer of a twenty minute hat-trick on opening day - saw an effort strike the post thanks to a timely Carter block.
A red card for Shaun Terry then added further woe.
It was not the end to the evening Bassett had hoped for, especially after how it had started.
