Cox double accounts for Abbots

Corinium Stadium, 9th October 2013

Levi Cox struck twice as Wootton Bassett Town returned to winning ways with a much needed 3-1 victory against struggling Abingdon Town.

The forward opened the scoring with a penalty on 50 minutes before netting again on the hour.

Bassett's two goal lead didn't last long as Tom Booker capitalised on a Steve Allison error to halve the deficit. But, completing a fine performance, Cox - whose start to the season had been frustrated by a nagging injury - set up Bassett's third late on, crossing for Jason Milhench, who found the back of the net with an acrobatic finish.

In ending their five game winless run Bassett were made to work hard. They spurned three good chances early on, which almost let Abingdon off the hook as they started to come into the game before the break. But Cox's penalty then ensured the home team quickly established a hold on the game following the restart.

Victory means Jeff Roberts' team's record against sides currently in the bottom half is played five, won four. And they will look to continue that solid form a week on Saturday when they visit Cheltenham Saracens.
