Wootton Bassett Town became only the second team this season to have points taken off them by Abingdon United, falling to a disappointing 3-2 home defeat that, along with other results, sees Jeff Roberts' team drafted closer to the danger zone in the Hellenic League Premier Division.
Bassett had the made a perfect start as Jason Milhench scored his fifth goal of the season with the game just seven minutes old.
However Abingdon, piloted by the sharp movement of frontman Graham Edney, equalised and then took the lead within a game changing eight minute period. Ben McCready levelled the game up in the 22nd minute before Sam Elkins put the visitors ahead.
After the restart Bassett were dominant, yet unable to find a way past a stubborn Abingdon defence.
Sam Collier eventually restored parity, netting against his former team. But that came with eight minutes to go. Surely there was too little time to find a winner?
In fact there was just enough. But crushingly for Bassett it was Edney who would seal the points for Abingdon.
To compound matters for Bassett, both Tyler Sheppard and Sam Packer were dismissed for two bookable offences, though both have the right to feel extremely agrieved.
