Roberts snatches points late in five goal thriller

Yarnton Road, 17th September 2013

A Jordan Roberts goal seven minutes from time saw Wootton Bassett Town grab their first away victory of the season as they defeated Kidlington 3-2 in a thrilling clash.

Impressively, five trips away from home have now yielded Bassett six points. All though have been earned in tough circumstances, this one especially.

Defenders Craig Bowden, Shaun Carter, Lee Stevens and Kyle Rigley were all absent, with reserve team veteran Jon Davis drafted in, while 'keeper Wesley Clarke made his debut, becoming the fourth shotstopper to feature so far this campaign.

And entering Oxfordshire for the first time this season, the visitors trailed midway through the opening period when a fine strike from Tommy Castle gave Kidlington the lead.

But Lewis Chatwin levelled shortly after the restart before Ryan Stanners put Bassett ahead within moments.

On an evening of high scoring, close matches in the Hellenic League Premier Division, it was fitting that Kidlington equalised through captain Lewis Brownhill on the hour.

However, Bassett had the final, decisive say, midfielder Roberts converting what proved to be the winner following a corner.
