Saracens sucker punch condemns Bassett

Petersfield Park, 7th April 2014

Wootton Bassett Town fell to a disappointing away defeat at Cheltenham Saracens, as the Gloucestershire came from behind to triumph 2-1.

In a game of three penalties, a first half Bassett miss and Cheltenham conversion from twelve yards at the start of the second period proved critical.

The visitors had taken the lead when Kyle Rigley tucked away the game's second penalty shortly before the break. By that point, however, Lee Stevens had already seen a penalty saved.

That slender lead did not last long after the restart as Saracens took advantage of a foul on their own inside the box.

They then found the winner quarter of an hour from time.

There's little time for Bassett to lick their wounds as they entertain Bracknell Town on Wednesday - a game they will have to win if they are to retain any hope of finishing 12th, the highest possible position that can still be achieved.

It's then back to Cheltenham on Saturday for the Supplementary Cup quarter final with Saracens, when revenge will hopefully be gained.
