Under 10 Blues are Bassett's cup kings

18 May 2013 - Robins (N)

So the big day was here! We arrived early so the boys could make the most of the day and spent half an hour outside looking around the shop and did some team bonding outside!

We went into the ground and in the main changing rooms which the boys loved, with the huge bath and showers a sight to behold! The warm up was good, they were all focused and soaking up the atmosphere.

The game started at eleven and we were determined from the off. We took control immediately by keeping the ball and trying to pass our way across the field. The whole of the first half was tense, we had a half chance early on when Jack Holder ran on to a pass but he shot straight at the keeper. Nat was working his socks off as usual and made a couple of great runs, the first beating two tackles but he found himself wide and he shot into the side netting and the second he shot wide.

Josh seemed in control of his area coming out to pick up any long balls and was playing nicely with Oliver from his quick short goal kicks. We nearly came unstuck when a nice through ball found the forward free but Adam back tracked quickly to steal the ball and put it out for a corner.

Oliver and JT were worked hard and they won just about every tackle and through ball to clear the danger. Jamie came on in midfield and his skill. ball control and work effort was excellent as he kept the dangerous winger quiet.

The first half ended with no score but we told the boys that if they kept the same effort going in the second half that the goal would come.

And we did get the breakthrough when Jack Holder made a great run and was fouled a couple of yards outside the box. Adam stepped up and somehow managed to score directly from the free kick as he found the bottom corner beating the wall and the player on the line.

But we switched off and a minute from the restart Robins equalized when a couple of nice passes left the wide player with space and he fired a rocket shot from distance over Josh and into the top of the net.

We kept going going and worked hard pushing Robins back into their own half. Jack Holder scored a second goal when he found space and from the corner of the box his shot found the far corner just out of reach of the keepers hand.

The keeper then made a super save from a Marshall shot which he somehow stopped and then managed to smother the ball. We forced a few corners one which Nat headed over and another that Adam couldn't quite connect with.

But we soon scored again to put the game out of reach when we broke quickly and had a 3 on 1 with Nat, Marshall and Jack H attacking. Marshall beat the last man and shot across the goal, the ball seemed to bounce around just in front of the line and Nat was first to it and he smashed it in to get his goal.

For the final few minutes we continued to defend strongly and keep Robins out. As the final whistle blew there were lots of loud cheers from the crowd as everyone was so pleased!

A fantastic performance from all eight of the boys who were determined, put in 100% effort with the right attitude and got the win that they earned today.
